Yoshio Inoue (*1966)

I want to capture the world of light and shadow as a momentary image. This is my fundamental motivation for photography.

In today's age of digital photography, it was my encounter with photographer Mr. Ray Bidegain of Portland, Oregon, USA in 2015 that led me to the wonders of handmade photography. The beautiful work in platinum-palladium technique has shown me new horizons. The more I pursued the traditional Japanese culture of “Wabi and Sabi”, or the appreciation of shadow and light, and still-life photography, the more I became aware of paper as a medium for fixing the final product, and the techniques that support it.

Later, a chance encounter with polymer-based gravure prints led me further into the world of handcrafts. While working with the latest image processing technology, I moved into the more classical world of printmaking. It is a technique that has been loved in our country for hundreds of years, as well as meeting new prints that are lovingly produced all over the world. Inheriting these classical techniques, I would like to continue to express my own inner expression through the eye of the lens.
